Channel Hastings Postcard Exhibition

Somebody Else's Love Song

A group of 15 local photography enthusiasts are currently displaying their favourite images from in and around Hastings at a postcard exhibition at The Bullet Café, Robertson Street Hastings. The official opening of the exhibition took place on Sunday 11 January and the exhibition runs until the end of January.

The event was organised with two key objectives:

1. To enable an online community of photography enthusiasts to meet up and display some of their favourite local images from 2008.

2. To raise funds through the sale of individual postcards to support the Sara Lee Trust a local charity which was set up in memory of Sara Lee who died of cancer at the age of 32.

The group of budding photographers are all members of a web community on the popular photo sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 248 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings.

To commemorate the annual Channel Hastings Postcard Exhibition local people were invited to vote for their favourite image from 2008.

The winner of The Channel Hastings Photo of 2008 was photographer Terry Russell. Terry's 'Somebody Else’s Love Song' image proved to be the most popular shot with other photography enthusiasts and local people.

"The opening of the exhibition was a great success and highlighted the wide range and rich diversity of photographic talent that exists locally. We hope people will seek to buy their favourite postcards and continue to support us as we plan to hold further exhibitions, photo votes and events in 2009."

Individual postcards will be on sale for £1 each at The Bullet Cafe 38 Robertson Street (on the corner of Robertson Street and Claremont) and the proceeds will go to the St Leonards based Sara Lee Trust.
