Local People Vote For Their Favourite 'The World In Hastings' Image

Local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 6 July on Hastings Pier. A group of local photography enthusiasts showcased a diverse range of images from their 'The World In Hastings' Photo Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 179 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 3500 photos in Hastings and 1066 Country.

The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Lin Gregory. Lin's 'American Line Dancing' image proved to be the most popular shot with local people.

Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "Despite the windswept conditions a small but committed number of photography enthusiasts came along to support us in Bar Luxor on Hastings Pier. Congratulations go out to Lin for scoring a hat-trick after winning three Channel Hastings Photo Challenges”.

After the popularity of the ‘The World In Hastings’ theme the photography enthusiasts have decided to launch a 'The Three Colours Red, White and Blue' challenge for the month of July.

To participate in July's 'The Three Colours Red, White and Blue' photo challenge all budding photographers need to sign up for a Flickr account. The basic membership is free and after joining Flickr they can then join the Channel Hastings group on Flickr and participate in the latest photo challenge.

A group of local photography enthusiasts will be displaying over 100 images from their 'The World In Hastings' Photo Challenge at a forthcoming event to be held on Hastings Pier. The exhibition takes place on Sunday 6 July 11-5pm and local people and visitors to Hastings are being invited to vote for their favourite image from the Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 176 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 3500 photos taken in Hastings and 1066 Country.

The official voting will take place from 11 to 4pm and the winner of the Challenge will be announced shortly afterwards. The Channel Hastings stall on the Pier with not only display the entries to the Challenge but will also be selling unique local postcards with proceeds going to The Sara Lee Trust.

Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "This month 'The World In Hastings' theme has proven to be our most challenging one so far. We've tried to capture shots with an international flavour from Hastings and 1066 Country and reflect the diverse nature of our favourite corner of the south coast of England. We hope that local people and visitors to Hastings will feel inspired to visit us and cast their vote for their favourite photograph."

Terry Russell added: "This month has been very exciting for us as one of the sons of our active members also won the recent St Leonards Garden Photo competition (Age 9-13 category)."

To participate in future photo challenges all budding photographers need to sign up for a Flickr account. The basic membership is free and after joining Flickr they can then join the Channel Hastings group on Flickr and participate in the latest photo challenge.

The exhibition takes place on Sunday 1 June 11-5pm and local people and visitors to Hastings are being invited to vote for their favourite image from the Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 165 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 3000 photos taken in and around Hastings. The official voting will take place from 11 to 4pm and the winner of the Challenge will be announced shortly afterwards.

Local People Choose Their Favourite United Colours of Hastings Image

Local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 6 April on Hastings Pier. A group of 20 local photography enthusiasts showcased over 100 images from their 'United Colours of Hastings' Photo Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 154 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 2000 photos taken in and around Hastings.

The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Lin Gregory. Lin's Beach Huts image proved to be the most popular shot with local people. Lin Gregory said: "I feel really honoured to have won this months challenge -particularly with the high quality of entries.  I have been re-enthused photographically and that's all down to the Channel Hastings group which has been a great source of inspiration and learning for me."

Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "Despite the wintery conditions a small but committed number of photography enthusiasts came along to support us. Congratulations go out to Lin for winning both the official voting on Hastings Pier as well as winning our photo polling on the Channel Hastings website”.
