Local People Vote For Their Favourite 'The World In Hastings' Image

Local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 6 July on Hastings Pier. A group of local photography enthusiasts showcased a diverse range of images from their 'The World In Hastings' Photo Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 179 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 3500 photos in Hastings and 1066 Country.

The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Lin Gregory. Lin's 'American Line Dancing' image proved to be the most popular shot with local people.

Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "Despite the windswept conditions a small but committed number of photography enthusiasts came along to support us in Bar Luxor on Hastings Pier. Congratulations go out to Lin for scoring a hat-trick after winning three Channel Hastings Photo Challenges”.

After the popularity of the ‘The World In Hastings’ theme the photography enthusiasts have decided to launch a 'The Three Colours Red, White and Blue' challenge for the month of July.

To participate in July's 'The Three Colours Red, White and Blue' photo challenge all budding photographers need to sign up for a Flickr account. The basic membership is free and after joining Flickr they can then join the Channel Hastings group on Flickr and participate in the latest photo challenge.

We've tried to capture shots with an international flavour from Hastings and 1066 Country and reflect the diverse nature of our favourite corner of the south coast of England. The exhibition takes place on Sunday 1 June 11-5pm and local people and visitors to Hastings are being invited to vote for their favourite image from the Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 165 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 3000 photos taken in and around Hastings. The official voting will take place from 11 to 4pm and the winner of the Challenge will be announced shortly afterwards.

The Channel Hastings stall on the Pier with not only display the entries to the Challenge but will also be selling unique local postcards with proceeds going to The Sara Lee Trust.

Local People Choose Their Favourite United Colours of Hastings Image

Local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 6 April on Hastings Pier. A group of 20 local photography enthusiasts showcased over 100 images from their 'United Colours of Hastings' Photo Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 154 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 2000 photos taken in and around Hastings.

The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Lin Gregory. Lin's Beach Huts image proved to be the most popular shot with local people. Lin Gregory said: "I feel really honoured to have won this months challenge -particularly with the high quality of entries. I have been re-enthused photographically and that's all down to the Channel Hastings group which has been a great source of inspiration and learning for me."

Channel Hastings Photographers To Exhibit At Imagen Gallery

Local creative framers Imagen have chosen three Channel Hastings photographers to display their favourite images from in and around Hastings at a forthcoming exhibition to be held at The Imagen Gallery.The private viewing of the exhibition takes place on Friday 28 March from 6.30pm onwards and the exhibition runs until Friday 11th April.

Terry Russell, Adam Piggott and Barry Reid are all members of The Channel Hastings photography collective that seeks to showcase and celebrate the most exciting local photography from in and around Hastings. The Channel Hastings photographers have a group on the popular photo-sharing website Flickr. It currently consists of 143 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has approximately 2100 photos taken in and around Hastings.

Terry Russell freelance photographer and founder of Channel Hastings said: "The fact that three out of the four photographers were chosen to exhibit at The Imagen Gallery is very encouraging to all of us."

"We hope people will come along to the exhibition and be inspired to join us on our journey to shoot, share and celebrate the very best that the local area has to offer to photography enthusiasts."

In order to display an alternative to the more traditional seaside shots Terry Russell has chosen to showcase his recent images of young local 'free runners' whose spectacular backflips out of Bottle Alley and onto the beach immediately captured the imagination of local Channel Hastings photographers.

In addition to the sale of prints at the exhibition local photography enthusiasts will also be able to purchase their favourite images as postcards in April from the Channel Hastings website.

The Imagen Gallery is at the Britannia Enterprise Centre Waterworks Road (near Morrisons)

Hastings Photo Challenge Voting Success

Over 100 local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 2 March on Hastings Pier. A group of 20 local photography enthusiasts showcased over 100 images from their first ever 'Hastings the Word' Photo Challenge.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 125 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has approximately 1650 photos taken in and around Hastings.

The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Andy Wilson. Andy's 'Hastingswood' image proved to be the most popular shot and he received a £35 voucher from local print company Martel Colour Print. Andy Wilson said: "The quality of the entries was extremely high so I'm both very flattered and amazed to have won. Thanks to all of the other entrants for making it a success to be proud of."

The Channel Hastings stall on the Pier proved to be very popular with many people voting on their favourite images from the 'Hastings The Word' challenge and purchasing unique local postcards in support of the local The Sara Lee Trust.

Local Photography Enthusiasts Launch "Hastings The Word" Photo Challenge

After the success of their recent Hastings Postcard Exhibition held at The Creative Media Centre and inspired by the recent Channel Four series 'Picture This' a group of aspiring local photographers are launching their first ever photo challenge. The 'Channel Hastings Image Challenge' (C-H-I-C) starts on Friday 1 February and lasts for a month. The theme of February's challenge is 'Hastings The Word' and participants are invited to submit their favourite images with the word Hastings in the photo.

The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 95 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has just over 1300 photos taken in and around Hastings.

One of the participants will be local photographer Paul Mansfield (also known as A Roving Eye) who was chosen by Channel Four's 'Picture This'. Unfortunately, Paul was not selected as one of the six finalists. However, Paul is undeterred and continues to pursue his passion for photography unabated. "Photography groups like Channel Hastings from Flickr are great at matching you up with likewise people where creative ideas soon blossom. Our latest one, based on the word 'Hastings', will make me even more inquisitive as I walk the streets of this seaside town."

Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "This is a great opportunity for all aspiring photographers to recharge their creative batteries after the Christmas festivities. It is very exciting to launch the challenge as we think there is a lot of creative scope with the word Hastings. We hope that new aspiring photographers will also take up the challenge and join us."

Recently the Hastings creative framers and gallery Imagen spotted three photographers from the Channel Hastings group and have invited them to exhibit their work at a forthcoming photography exhibition in March. Terry Russell added: "As the Imagen example shows the challenge is also a great opportunity to raise your profile and get yourself noticed in the local community as well."
