A compelling and engaging slideshow featuring images from the local photography group Channel Hastings and music by local band ‘The Lucky Ones’ will be shown as part of the forthcoming ‘Facing up to Climate Change’ Conference organised by Hastings Borough Council. The conference takes place at Azur Marina Pavilion on Friday 25 September from 9.30-4pm and is open to members of the public.
The 3-minute slideshow entitled 'Splash' (A celebration of the summer in Hastings & St Leonards) was originally shown on the big screen before the screening of ‘Mamma Mia’ at a recent open air cinema event at Alexandra Park with approximately 600 people in attendance. ‘Splash’ showcases a unique and diverse range of photographs taken in the local area during the summer months. The slideshow also features music by the popular trio ‘The Lucky Ones’ whose version of Depeche Mode’s ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ provides the perfect musical accompaniment.
After the success of ‘Splash’ on the big screen in Alexandra Park organisers of Hastings Borough Council’s ‘Facing up to Climate Change’ Conference have decided to screen the slideshow during their conference registration and breaks. The conference itself will feature examples of how Hastings and cities across Europe are adapting to climate change and both regional and European partners will be speaking at the event.
Freelance photographer and creator of the ‘Splash’ slideshow Terry Russell said: "We couldn’t allow the summer to disappear without showcasing some of our favourite seaside shots from the summer and we’d like to thank everybody for their positive feedback and support. If local people are unable to attend the conference, they will still have the opportunity to view our slideshow on the Channel Hastings website”.
After the success of the 'Splash' slideshow the Channel Hastings photography enthusiasts are currently working on the publication of a 120-page photo book to showcase some of their most popular photographs from 2009. The photographers are planning to hold an exhibition and launch the book in November and hope it will make an ideal Christmas present for local people.
