Photography Enthusiasts Invite Local People to 'Photo Vote' On Hastings Pier
A group of 20 local photography enthusiasts will be displaying over 130 images from their 'Local Patterns, Shapes and Textures' Photo Challenge at a forthcoming event to be held on Hastings Pier. The exhibition takes place on Sunday 4 May 11-5pm and local people and visitors to Hastings are being invited to vote for their favourite image from the Challenge.
The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 155 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 2500 photos taken in and around Hastings. The official voting will take place from 11 to 4pm and the winner of the Challenge will be announced shortly afterwards.
The Channel Hastings stall on the Pier with not only display the entries to the Challenge but will also be selling unique local postcards with proceeds going to The Sara Lee Trust.
Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "Our Local Patterns, Shapes and Textures' Challenge has proven to be another big success with over 130 submissions. We hope that local people and visitors to Hastings will feel inspired to visit us and cast their vote for their favourite photograph and in doing so feel very much part of the event."
Terry Russell added: "We also really want to show our support to the new Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust and hope that new aspiring photographers will also show theirs and get involved in future challenges and events throughout the year."
To participate in future photo challenges all budding photographers need to sign up for a Flickr account. The basic membership is free and after joining Flickr they can then join the Channel Hastings group on Flickr and participate in the latest photo challenge.

Local People Choose Their Favourite United Colours of Hastings Image
Local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 6 April on Hastings Pier. A group of 20 local photography enthusiasts showcased over 100 images from their 'United Colours of Hastings' Photo Challenge.
The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 154 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has over 2000 photos taken in and around Hastings.
The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Lin Gregory. Lin's Beach Huts image proved to be the most popular shot with local people. Lin Gregory said: "I feel really honoured to have won this months challenge -particularly with the high quality of entries. I have been re-enthused photographically and that's all down to the Channel Hastings group which has been a great source of inspiration and learning for me."
Freelance photographer and organiser of the challenge Terry Russell said: "Despite the wintery conditions a small but committed number of photography enthusiasts came along to support us. Congratulations go out to Lin for winning both the official voting on Hastings Pier as well as winning our photo polling on the Channel Hastings website”.
After the popularity of the ‘United Colours of Hastings’ theme the photography enthusiasts have decided to launch a 'Local Patterns, Shapes and Textures' challenge for the month of April.
To participate in April's 'Local Patterns, Shapes and Textures' photo challenge all budding photographers need to sign up for a Flickr account. The basic membership is free and after joining Flickr they can then join the Channel Hastings group on Flickr and participate in the latest photo challenge.

Hastings Photo Challenge Voting Success

Over 100 local people and visitors to Hastings voted for their favourite image from a wide and diverse selection of original photographs displayed on Sunday 2 March on Hastings Pier. A group of 20 local photography enthusiasts showcased over 100 images from their first ever 'Hastings the Word' Photo Challenge.
The budding photographers are all members of the Channel Hastings group on the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. It currently consists of 125 members comprising both local residents and visitors to Hastings and has approximately 1650 photos taken in and around Hastings.
The winner of the Challenge was local photography enthusiast Andy Wilson. Andy's 'Hastingswood' image proved to be the most popular shot and he received a £35 voucher from local print company Martel Colour Print. Andy Wilson said: "The quality of the entries was extremely high so I'm both very flattered and amazed to have won. Thanks to all of the other entrants for making it a success to be proud of."
The Channel Hastings stall on the Pier proved to be very popular with many people voting on their favourite images from the 'Hastings The Word' challenge and purchasing unique local postcards in support of the local The Sara Lee Trust.
